3:10 Ramblings

I've been drifting in and out of sleep for the past couple of hours. I'm listening to an audiobook off my computer…so maybe that'll explain something that's been rolling around hard in my head for the past several minutes. I woke up and went to go back to the last part of the book I remembered, and started reading the screen saver (news headlines) I went and read the article on the downgrading of our nation's credit rating. Then I click onto yahoo and read about the riots in London…and I thought, "that still could be us" Both of those thoughts made me sad, and I started wondering if I could find any parallels between the stories and why I found them so disheartening.

Then it occurred to me. Love is missing. I'm not talking about romantic love, I'm talking about the love for our fellow man. I don't care if we are talking about our next door neighbor, someone across the country or halfway across the world. In both of these stories really are talking about self centeredness to the point of hate. Think about it. Race riots. Stupid. Why? What the hell is the point? What is getting all pissed off and burning a bunch of shit and beating the shit out of each other going to prove? Somebody takes/gives lumps better than the other. Oh boy. That really settled it, didn't it. Um. HELL NO. It CREATED MORE HATE. When we get so focused on our selves and our little world we forget to notice what's going on around us. Then we realize something is different and we get mad because it isn't the way we want it to be. Brilliant. Nothing is getting solved. In the case of the national credit rating…….how did we get so self centered that we thought we could be TRILLIONS of dollars in debt and not have the day where we were going to be called on it? Now we're all in a panic wondering what we should do….

Well, since nobody asks little old me, I'm gonna tell you what I think. I don't care if you don't agree, I just ask you to read it with an open mind and see if you hear any bells of truth. Please feel free to hit comment if you want to discuss. I love hearing differing opinions to see where mine can be improved upon or learn something I didn't know.

I think we need to collectively take a step back and a deep breath. I think we need to go back and remember accountability and genuine empathy…you know, picturing how this situation might look to the other side, ASKING for clarification from the other side because ya know, sometimes there's just an understanding due to perspective change. If we'd just go back to the golden rule….you know…do unto others, and hold ourselves accountable for our choices, we just might like the changes we see. I just wish we'd stop fighting (think of most of the typical hot topic issues: abortion, gay marriage, border issues/immigration) and really start listening to each other and working together to actually come to a mutually agreeable **solution** .

But that's just how I see it tonight.
