Gotta love OCD.....

First, thanks for all the birthday wishes to D. I've fwd them on to her, and y'all made her day. She did wonder why my friends are nicer to her than her friends. I do believe that the answer lies in the fact that we are all no longer in jr hi!!!!!

Okay, I get a bit obsessed with stuff from time to time, but oftentimes the fire quickly dies. This week I'm all about paperbackswap.com. Their link is on the bottom of my page. No kidding, I'm addicted. I went, signed up, said I was referred by none other than Aunt Kathy. She will get some free book credits for this action. If you sign up, be sure to say that somebody sent you there, because we all know we all love freeness!!! Anyway, I list the books (paperbacks, textbooks, hardcovers, whatever I have in good condition lying around collecting dust). Then as people search for these books they are directed to me. They have a wishlist function which I love, then you're connected as somebody lists the book..... Okay, anyway, then you do a bit of clicking on the site, print out a sheet, wrap the book (or use a manilla envelope if you're lazy, like me) and send it away. You pay for postage when you send the book. When you receive a book, it's free. What a great way to declutter and keep Miss 14 yo in books. She HATES the library and I HATE spending full price at B&N. Now we're both happier. She gets more books, and I don't have to rationalize buying a zillion books that last her a minute. What surprised me was how many of my old text books are flying off the shelves. I guess the ideas in them aren't that outdated!!! What you see in the picture is our textbook bookshelf that was nasty dusty yesterday and crammed full of books. Stuff like Internet for Dummies (1996) and Norton Anti-Virus (same era) or books that had been heavily written in or water logged were pitched. the rest were listed. since last night, I've had 8 more requested books. TEXT books. So my ROI on a $80 text book isn't too high, but it's also no longer collecting dust on my shelves. The bag has the books that are ready to go to the post office. I would head there today, but at 10 degrees and 2.56 miles (round trip) with the car in the shop....I'll wait. It would have been a nice walk at say, 35 or so. No such luck!

I signed up for the book swap a while ago but never did a thing with it. I guess I need to get my butt in gear.

Happy belated birthday to D.

Hugs!!!

I've been thinking of joining for over a year now and still haven't done it. I guess part of my problem was how to ship the books out. Manila envelope sounds pretty good, though.

Paperback swap quickly died for me. I liked the idea but there weren't ever books that I wanted. I have a ton of credits waiting for me to have an epiphany of an older book I haven't read but want to. I put my site on vacation hold for the time being because I got tired of wrapping books when I wasn't getting anything for it. Sigh...it is a nice site though.

The book swap sounds great, but I can do the same thing pretty much with my friends in my craft clubs. Someone is always bringing in books to share. I even took some in to help declutter my shelves, and I got a Sue Grafton book! This is best for me right now because I just have to save every penny I can. I'm sure your dd appreciates the books though. My dd used to break us buying books at the book fairs!
